Stephen Moss C.B.E.

Stephen read law at King’s College London, was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn and took an MBA at the London Business School. After a short spell in corporate finance, Stephen has specialised in growing businesses to achieve successful onward sale and leading a number of not-for-profit organisations through periods of major development and change.

Since April 2020, he has served as Chair of London Youth, a charity on a mission to improve the lives of young people in London through its network of over 600 community youth organisations and its two residential outdoor centres. It provides a range of sports, arts, social action, employability programmes as well as training for youth workers across the capital.

More recently, in April 2024, Stephen was appointed Chair of the Royal Academy of Dance whose mission is to inspire the world to dance. In 85 countries across the globe, it provides world class dance training for people of all ages and is the world’s largest trainer of dance teachers. Its Step Into Dance programme introduces school students to the enjoyment and physical and mental health benefits of dance. It also teaches dance to those with special needs and has Silver Swans dance classes for older people.

Stephen’s early business interests were in the restaurant and wine distribution industries. Then, in 1989, he became Managing Director of BCP, which grew to become the country’s largest airport parking booking service handling over a million bookings a year. It was sold to Q-Park in 2003 for over £20m, but he continued to manage the company until 2007.

Since then, his portfolio career has included Chairing the Bibendum drinks distribution group where he helped the leadership team grow sales to almost £300m prior to heading up its sale to Conviviality PLC for £60m in May 2016. He was senior NED of Safestay PLC, an AIM listed rapidly expanding pan-European contemporary hostel business, until March 2024 and Chair of Grosvenor Securities, a Central London commercial property investment and development company, until end 2024.

In the not-for-profit sector, Stephen served on the Restaurant Association and People 1st, the Sector Skills Council. In 1990, he founded The Springboard Charity, was its Chair until 2019 and is now its Life President. This national charity promotes careers in hospitality, leisure and tourism and helps the young, disadvantaged and unemployed change their lives through opportunities in that sector. In 1992 he was awarded an MBE for services to the restaurant industry and, in 2002, a CBE for his contribution towards education and training.

Stephen is also past Chair of The Movement for Reform Judaism and, prior to that, its flagship West London Synagogue, of which he then became President and is now an actively involved Life President. He has served as a Trustee on the Jewish Leadership Council, Leo Baeck Rabbinic College and Jewish Child’s Day and was Chair of the Institute for Jewish Policy Research and Chair of Trustees for JCoSS, a leading state-funded cross-communal Jewish faith school, until March 2025.
